How it works

Three steps, under 5 minutes.

Paste your link

Drop in the page you want to send people to. We add https:// for you if you leave it off, and keep any query string already on the URL.

Add your campaign details

Fill in the source, medium, and campaign name. Term and content are optional for when you need to tell links apart.

Copy your trackable URL

The finished UTM link updates live. Copy it with one click and use it anywhere you share the link.

Understanding UTM links

What UTM parameters are and which ones matter

UTM parameters are small tags you add to the end of a link so your analytics tool knows where a visitor came from. They do not change the page a person lands on, they just travel along in the URL and get recorded when someone clicks. Three of them do the heavy lifting: utm_source (where the link lives, like linkedin or newsletter), utm_medium (the type of channel, like social, email, or cpc), and utm_campaign (the specific push, like spring_launch).

Two more are optional. utm_term is used mainly for paid keywords, and utm_content lets you tell apart two links that point to the same place, like a header button versus a footer link in the same post. If you do not need them, leave them blank and the tool leaves them out.

How to name sources, mediums, and campaigns consistently

Analytics treats Newsletter and newsletter as two different sources, so pick one style and never deviate. The safe convention is all lowercase with underscores instead of spaces, so spring_launch rather than Spring Launch. Consistency is what lets you group and compare campaigns later instead of hunting through a dozen near-duplicate labels.

Keep medium to a short, fixed vocabulary you reuse everywhere: social, email, cpc, referral. Save the specific detail for the campaign and content fields. The goal is that six months from now you can still read a report and know instantly what each row means.

Common mistakes that break tracking

The biggest one is inconsistent casing and spacing, which quietly splits a single campaign across several rows in your reports. The next is spaces or special characters typed straight into a value, which can mangle the link. This tool encodes every value for you, so a space becomes a proper %20 and the URL stays clickable.

Also watch for tagging internal links between your own pages, which can reset a visitor's original source and pollute your data, and for dropping a UTM link into a spot that strips query strings. Build the link once here, copy it clean, and paste it exactly as generated.

FAQ

Good to know.

What is a UTM link?

It's a normal URL with a few extra tags on the end (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, and sometimes utm_term and utm_content). Those tags tell your analytics tool where a click came from, so you can see which channels and campaigns actually drive traffic.

Do I need to include the https:// part?

No. If you leave the protocol off, the tool adds https:// for you. It also keeps any query string already on your link and correctly encodes every value, so the URL stays clean and clickable.

Is anything I type stored or sent anywhere?

No. The whole thing runs in your browser. Nothing leaves your browser and nothing is saved, so you can build private campaign links without them touching a server.

How is this different from CaptureFlow?

This tool tags the links you share. CaptureFlow helps you have more worth sharing, turning one idea into on-brand content across every platform, so the links you tag actually lead somewhere people want to go.
