How engagement rate is calculated
The common method is engagement by followers: add up the likes, comments, saves, and shares on a post, divide by your follower count, and multiply by 100. That gives you a percentage that says how much of your audience actually interacts, rather than just how big your audience is.
It is measured by followers because that is what makes accounts comparable. A post with 500 likes means something very different for an account of 2,000 than for one of 200,000. Rate strips out the size so you can see the real level of connection.
What counts as a good rate
It depends on your platform and your size, which is why a single "good" number is misleading. Smaller accounts almost always run hotter, because a tight, early audience engages more per person. And platforms differ: TikTok tends to run higher than Instagram, which runs higher than X or LinkedIn.
That is why this tool benchmarks you against a typical band for your platform and follower tier, instead of a flat number. A 3 percent rate can be excellent or below average depending entirely on where you sit.
How to actually raise it
Chase saves and shares, not just likes. A like is cheap, but a save means the post was useful enough to keep and a share means it was worth passing on, and platforms weight those far more heavily. Posts that teach something or say something worth repeating earn them.
Ask better questions to pull comments, and favor quality over volume. Posting more filler drags your rate down, because reach grows while interaction does not. One post worth engaging with beats five nobody reacts to.
