Making text bold on social platforms

Why social platforms have no bold button

LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and Facebook all strip normal formatting from the box you type in, so there is no built-in way to bold a word. This tool works around that by converting your letters into Unicode characters that already look bold. They are single characters, not hidden styling, so the bold look survives when you paste into a post, a comment, or your profile.

Because these are standard Unicode characters, the same bold text works almost everywhere text goes: LinkedIn posts, X threads, Instagram captions, Threads, Facebook, TikTok, and most bios. Type once here, and you can reuse the bold version across every platform.

How bold Unicode actually works

Every character you can type has a code point, a number that identifies it in the Unicode standard. Bold letters live in a separate block called Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols, so a bold A is a genuinely different character from a normal A, not the same letter with styling on top.

This tool maps each letter and digit you type to its bold counterpart in that block. That is why the result pastes cleanly into apps with no formatting toolbar: there is nothing to strip, the characters themselves are already bold. The trade-off is that each style is a fixed set, so a handful of symbols and accented letters fall back to their plain form.

Use bold sparingly for reach and accessibility

Bold works best on one line, usually the hook, not the whole post. A single bold first line pulls the eye down into your writing. A fully bold post does the opposite: it reads like shouting, and people skim past it, which can quietly cost you reach.

There is an accessibility cost too. Screen readers can struggle with bold Unicode, reading it out letter by letter or skipping it entirely, so anyone using assistive tech may miss it. Never put essential information in bold Unicode only. Treat it as emphasis on top of a clear plain-text message, and your post stays readable for everyone.

FAQ

Good to know.

Why can't I just bold text on LinkedIn or X?

Their post editors strip normal formatting, so there is no bold button. This tool works around it by converting your letters into Unicode characters that already look bold, so the styling survives when you paste.

Will the bold text work on Instagram, Facebook, and bios?

Yes. Because these are real Unicode characters, not hidden formatting, they paste and display the same way across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Threads, Facebook, and most bios and captions.

Is bold Unicode bad for accessibility?

Use it sparingly. Screen readers can struggle with bold Unicode, so keep it to a short hook or a key phrase rather than a whole post, and never put essential information in bold text only.
